Guru iOS App Privacy Policy

1. Information We Process

Guru processes information needed to provide reading, note generation, flashcard creation, review, purchase, credit, support, and diagnostic features.

• App and device data: anonymous app installation and analytics identifiers, device model, operating system version, app version, build number, locale, entitlement state, credit state, and basic server logs.
• Product analytics: app usage and interaction events, screen views, feature-flag assignments, and the anonymous analytics identifiers those events are attached to. We do not send your email address or mobile account ID to PostHog.
• User content: imported PDFs, book metadata, selected pages or excerpts, highlights, annotations, notes, generated flashcards, deck metadata, and imported or exported study files such as Anki packages.
• AI request data: selected text, page excerpts, prompts, template settings, generated notes or cards, model settings, and usage metadata needed to complete the request.
• Purchase data: product identifiers, subscription or purchase status, renewal state, entitlement records, credit records, and anonymous purchase-service identifiers. Payment details are handled by Apple, not by Guru.
• Diagnostic data: crash reports, performance data, error logs, device and app state needed to diagnose bugs, and other technical diagnostic data. We do not intentionally include document contents, notes, names, email addresses, or payment details in diagnostic reports.
• Support communications: your email address and the information you choose to send when you contact support.

2. How We Use Information

• To display, import, organize, and export study material.
• To generate AI notes and flashcards when you request those features.
• To manage purchases, subscriptions, entitlements, and credits.
• To restore purchases and prevent abuse of paid or credit-based features.
• To diagnose crashes, performance issues, and support requests.
• To maintain security, reliability, and legal compliance.

3. Third-Party Services

Guru may use service providers only as needed to operate the app:

• Apple: App Store distribution, In-App Purchase, subscriptions, and purchase restoration.
• RevenueCat: subscription, entitlement, and purchase-status infrastructure.
• PostHog: anonymous product analytics and feature flags.
• Sentry: crash, performance, and technical diagnostic reporting.
• AI service providers: processing selected content and prompts when you request AI generation.
• Hosting and backend providers: secure operation of app features, credit accounting, and support workflows.

4. No Advertising or Cross-App Tracking

Guru does not show third-party ads, sell personal information, or use collected data to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.

5. Local Data and AI Processing

Some documents, notes, decks, and review data are stored locally on your device. When you use AI features, the selected content and settings needed for that request may be sent to servers and AI service providers to generate the requested notes or flashcards.

6. Retention

Local data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Server-side records related to purchases, credits, AI requests, support, and diagnostics are kept only as long as needed to provide the app, resolve support issues, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, and improve reliability.

7. Your Choices

• You can choose not to use AI features if you do not want selected content sent for AI processing.
• You can delete local documents, notes, cards, and decks inside the app.
• You can restore purchases through the app or through Apple's App Store tools.
• You can contact support to request help with access, deletion, or privacy questions.

If you have an account, you can permanently request deletion directly in the app at Settings → Account → Delete Account. The app asks for confirmation before sending the deletion request. This removes the account and associated server-side account data, subject to limited retention required for security, billing, accounting, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Export any content you want to keep before deleting your account.

8. Children

Guru is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.

9. Changes

We may update this policy when app features, service providers, or legal requirements change. The updated version will show a new effective date.
