FAQ & troubleshooting
Quick answers — stuck generations, missing decks, sync hiccups, scanned PDFs, account deletion, and how to reach a human.
Generation
My generation looks stuck. Leave it alone for a minute — interrupted generations are picked up by a server-side sweeper and finished automatically, even with the tab closed. If a deck still looks incomplete after a few minutes, reload Materials; if it's genuinely wedged, contact us — unfinished work isn't charged.
The deck came out thin / low quality. Usually a scanned, image-only PDF. Generation reads the text layer; if you can't select text in the original, quality suffers. Try a cleaner source file, or use Expert for dense material — it makes multiple passes and checks facts against the source.
Can I edit or delete generated cards? Yes — open the material and edit inline. Pruning trivia is encouraged; it's your deck.
Reviewing
Today says "rest" but I want to study more. The schedule says nothing is about to be forgotten — that's success. If you want more volume, add new material or introduce more new cards rather than re-reviewing cards early.
My due pile exploded. You introduced new cards faster than you reviewed. Let the queue drain a few days; the plan already puts review before learn. See Daily review.
Sync
A deck from my phone isn't on the web (or vice versa). Sync Now on the device that has it, then on the one that doesn't. Still missing? Check both are signed into the same account (Settings → Guru Account on iOS). More in Syncing with the iOS app.
I use Anki, not the iOS app.
Upload any .apkg straight into Materials, export any deck back out as .apkg, or point Anki at GuruOwl's native sync server to sync your whole collection.
Account
Change email / password / linked providers — Settings → Profile.
Delete my account.
On iOS: Settings → Account → Delete Account removes the account and its data (this also covers a linked web account). On web, contact us from your account email and we'll process it. Export your decks as .apkg first if you want to keep them — deletion is permanent.
Where does my data live? Is it used to train AI? See the privacy policy — the short version: your documents are used to generate your cards, not to train models.
Still stuck?
Contact us. Include the deck or document name and roughly when it happened — it makes finding your case much faster.
